FOOD & NUTRITION

About one year ago I made a conscious decision to feed my dogs less and less meat or dairy. And as of a couple of months ago they are mostly vegan. They get the occasional can of salmon or other fish. They also get deer bones from wild venision when ever I can get it.

There is so much research now to prove that dogs can live a very healthy life on a plant based diet - IF you know what you are doing. So I am here to share with you how you can:

  1. have your dogs on a mostly plant based diet
  2. have your dogs on a healthy conventional diet without the "kibble"

I will share recipes and pictures - both here as well as on my blog and on FaceBook.

RECIPES

For the past 20 years I have experimented with different ways of feeding my dogs. What you'll find in this section are recipes and sources for you to feed your 4-legged buddies in the most ethical way possible. There are will plant based foods, vegetarian (egg based), and fish for the picky eaters. My dogs and I share most of the vegan dishes.

READY MIXES

I have learned from my years of experience that not everything that comes out of a box is bad. So, though I would never allow a box/bag of kibble near my 4-legged buddies, I do understand that sometimes we need "quick fixes" in our busy lives.

After a great deal of research I have found a company that has "put their product where their mouth is". Preserving food by dehydration is one of the oldest and most efficient methods of food processing. This company has taken this time-tested method and used it to create a healthier type of pet food with more nutritional bang for your hard earned buck.

Their dehydration process gently removes the moisture from their whole food ingredients, but still maintains all of the nice vitamins and minerals that are present in real fruits, veggies and lean meats. It is as close to home-cooked as you can get!

SUPPLEMENTS

I use the same philosophy for the supplements as I use for the food – if it is not “good for human consumption” why would I give it to my best friends?

To take it one step further – all the prescription drugs used in veterinary medicine come out of the human drug cabinet. Or do you think there are different antibiotic (as an example) – one for animals, one for humans? Or steroids?

It is just as important for every dog to have a healthy immune system. It will enable them to help the body to stay healthy.

ALTERNATIVE TREATMENTS

Over these past 25 years I have learned a lot about different alternatives to conventional treatments. I have used and implemented different techniques and different products. And because I have always lived with dogs who have had many health challenges I have come to understand that there is not just "the one". They are like building blocks - or our whole body - you find things that compliment each other.

When an eighty-five pound mammal licks your tears away, then tries to sit on your lap, it’s hard to feel sad.

PURPOSE

My purpose is to share my 25+ year journey of continous learning and breakthroughs in my quest to have healthy 4-legged companions.

PHILOSOPHY

My philosophy of life is clear and simple: do the absolute best you can for your fellow beings, whether they are two-legged or four-legged, and expect nothing less from those surrounding you.

When the Man waked up he said, ‘What is Wild Dog doing here?’ And the Woman said, ‘His name is not Wild Dog any more, but the First Friend, because he will be our friend for always and always and always.'
